Taylor Swift won the American Music Awards

The U.S. singer Taylor Swift was the winner of the 39th edition of the American Music Awards, won three awards, including artist of the year, while Jennifer Lopez won the award for America.

The awards ceremony was held Sunday night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at a ceremony marked by the absence of "stars" like Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Rihanna and Adele.

Katy Perry received a special distinction for being the first female artist in the history of pop to get five positions on Billboard, with songs from the same album - "Teenage Dream" - something only Michael Jackson had achieved with "Bad."

Other distinguished names in the session were Maroon 5, Blake Shelton, Lady Antebellum, Usher, Foo Fighters and Casting Crowns.
